Program description Stroll Fit is a stroller exercise program for parents who would prefer not to leave their children in order to exercise. We walk, pushing our strollers, in various Des Moines and West Des Moines outdoor locations. I include cardio bursts or intervals when I instruct the group to increase its pace by either walking faster or running - we have all levels of participants. We stop about four times per class for resistance and High Intensity Interval Training work using bands, small weights, or the available amenities of the trail or park. Classes are 60 minutes.
You are welcome and encouraged to participate without a child in a stroller. Your workout will not be impacted if you do not have a stroller. Older children are allowed to attend under the careful supervision of their parents.* The instructor cannot be responsible for participants’ children.
In any group fitness environment, the instructor sets the pace to meet the needs of the majority of participants. Please feel free to adapt exercises to fit your current fitness level. I will try to offer tiers of intensity. Choose the tier that is right for you. I encourage you to choose the appropriate tier that allows you to maintain correct form. Sacrificing form has great potential for injury.
Before participating in Stroll Fit, please fill out the attached waiver and fitness self assessment. If you are new to exercise, please consult your physician. You must be at least six weeks post partum to participate.
Accommodating children Our children are our first priority. Our workout is second. You know your child best. If your child needs you to stop and attend to his / her needs, please do so. Remember, we will be stopping along the trail for cardio and / or strength drills; you will catch up with us. Your child will be in his / her stroller for 45 minutes to an hour, please plan accordingly.
I would encourage you to restrain your child in an age / weight appropriate stroller. When we pick up the pace, children may get jostled. A jogging stroller is not needed; however, some prefer it.
*Older children can participate in the activities, but they will be your responsibility. I am teaching a class geared toward adults. I cannot assist with instructing children, and I cannot ensure their safety. In addition, you will be responsible for keeping your child safe and out of harm's way. When adults are moving quickly, unrestrained children are at risk of being injured and of injuring others.
Pricing Your first class is free! After that, you may buy single classes for $12 each or a punch card for with 5 classes for $50. You do not have to take those classes consecutively. It allows for a little flexibility. Punch cards expire after 6 months. If you refer a friend who buys a punch card, you earn a free class.
Weather Classes generally meet starting in April and ending whenever it is regularly too cold for littles, which is usually October or November. In 2016, we had class up until the week before Thanksgiving! Two years ago, I taught a pop-up class in December because of the unusually warm weather. Other Guidelines Please arrive early. Consider that it takes about five or ten minutes to set up your stroller and get your child situated. The start time listed on the schedule is the time that the class begins, not the time to meet in the parking lot and get set-up. Having said that, if you are late, feel free to join us! We may be already moving, but you will catch up with us.
Please let me know if you'll be attending each week, so I can plan classes accordingly and watch for you to arrive. If I believe no one is planning to attend, I may cancel the class at the last minute. The Facebook page would be updated no later than 30 min before class time with that information.
Make sure you stay updated by checking out my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/StrollFit?ref=hl. This will be the most efficient way for me to update everyone in case of rainout or last minute cancellation (I had a kid puke once on the way to class and no way to alert participants).
Classes may also be cancelled in case of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances (sick child). In general, I will cancel if it is raining, lightning, or otherwise precipitating in a way that would be uncomfortable or hazardous for children. If the temperature is below 32 or feels as if it’s below 32 due to wind, I will cancel. These are rough guidelines; a lot of times I just use my best judgment. Watch the Facebook page!
